BIOGRAPHY

JOHN CHARTER
John Charter
Lead singer, Group Harmony, Multi-Instrumentalist: Piano, Keyboard, Tenor and Alto Saxophones, Clarinet, Trumpet, Cornet, Flugal Horn, Valve Trombone, Electric Bass...

After beginning his career as a legitimate classical musician, John Charter then joined up with Australia’s first rock and roll band ‘The Houserockers’, then had his own band, ‘The Johnny Charter Trio’. He then joined and produced ‘Johhny Rebb and the Rebels’ and during that time, was musical director for the iconic TV shows ‘Bandstand’ and 6 O'Clock Rock.

The ‘60’s saw John working six years in the Far East during the Vietnam war with a ten piece all-Australian Showband and then three more years in the USA with a five piece group called ‘The Australians’ followed. Working constantly up to twenty-one shows per week, John took the quantum leap from behind the instrument to move ‘down-front’ and into the spotlight as a performer in his own right.

Since that time, in addition to entertaining audiences both here and overseas, John has extended his talents to that of show producer, musical director, and music writer/arranger, being the musical director of many successful bands and shows. Most notably, his achievements were of producer and musical director of The Delltones during the ‘80’s, the five-time MO Award winning group ‘The Fiftys’ and during the ‘90’s, one of Sydney’s most successful theatre restaurants, ‘Steppin; Out’.

Many claim to be blessed with the ‘spirit of music’, but in John’s case it’s true. Apart from being an accomplished arranger and producer, John also plays the Piano, Keyboards, Saxophones, Clarinet, Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Electric Bass and is the proud owner of a dynamic voice. He also arranges and records music in his own MIDI recording studio for many well-known Australian performers and continues to enhance his skills with the best equipment, taking his music to greater heights.
